Sharon Maloney

Today in my styling class we were very lucky to have a guest speaker come talk to us: Sharon Maloney. She was a very friendly, down to earth gal, who is a fabulous stylist. I was very inspired and impressed with her portfolio. She seemed to have worked in so many different areas of the fashion world from Elle Magazine to doing editorials. A lot of people in the fashion industry have a snotty type of attitude, as if they are better than you. I did not get this feeling from Sharon whatsoever. She wasn’t trying to be someone she wasn’t, and she seemed like a normal person, which is so fresh to see in an industry filled with fake people. A lot of stylists do work to show what edgy high fashion is, and they don’t focus on actual real people, and wearable items. Sharon had a nice balance of both, which I think is an important skill to have. Ms. Maloney gave some great advice and tips on how to be prepared for a shoot. It was hilarious to see her walk into the classroom lugging an oversized case, which was almost the size of her filled with styling tools. It was like Mary Poppins bag, filled with never-ending goodies!  I bet you all are thinking: styling tools, what type of tools are needed to dress a model? Let me tell you, a lot more goes into styling a shoot than you might think. It is a very draining, but fun job. Make sure to check out her website, she is truly talented. I hope that one day I will be able to make myself as successful as her.

RIght now I am pretty obsessed with oversized sweaters. First of all they are the most comfortable things, and second of all, they are so stylish (if you pick the right one)! I found a vintage Missoni sweater dress that I am really fond of. I like the color of it, and I like how low-cut it is in the front. I can totally see myself wearing this on a lazy Sunday with leggings and a magazine.

The Angels

New York City seemed to heat up after 4 years. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion show finally made its way back to the big apple, with a show that was unforgettable. I am sure most of  us get extremely jealous of the beautiful angels that are seen everywhere from billboards to television. If any of you watched the estimated $10 million runway show, I am positive you felt even more jealous, and had your guy on a tighter leash than usual. The Victoria’s Secret Angels are drop dead gorgeous, and what I like most about them is that they aren’t stick skinny. They actually have some curves, and meat on their bodies, so it isn’t painful to the world to watch them strut their stuff down the runway. Marissa Miller (one of the angels) was the special one who wore the best piece of all: the $3 million Harlequin Fantasy Bra designed by Damiani featuring more than 2,300 cut white, champagne, and cognac- colored diamonds, estimating close to 150 carats. How crazy is that? They probably needed security in every possible spot on that runway. Whatever guy gets to see that type of bra on their gal, truly did something right! If I had that bra I would never, ever wear it! It would go straight into a safe! No guy will ever get that lucky with me (sorry nixie)! Check out some of these gorgeous photos from the runway show!

I have always loved the look of woman wearing hats. It reminds me of older ladies who lunch. The look is so classy and old-fashioned, and I sometimes wish people still wore big, over the top fabulous hats. I found a great vintage hat this morning, that made me wish woman still wore them. You probably will feel the same way after you see it.

I got such a great email today from my Aunt Rachel. My Aunt Rachel and I share a lot of things in common, but probably the top 2 things we share is shopping and some more shopping. She emailed me this fabulous website on an antique jewelry store that has gorgeous pieces. It is seriously torture looking at everything, because after I am done drooling at the item, I look to the right and see the horrendous price tag that goes with it. I still love to look, that can’t hurt, can it?! One day when I am wealthy and can afford more than groceries, I am going to drop a lot of money on some pieces from this shop. Check out some of my favorite Edwardian styles below!

Through The Looking Glass

I have mentioned that Michaela and I had our last styling project assigned to us a few weeks back, and on Monday we finally had our photo shoot. We styled the shoot together, and love working as a team. Besides running 2 hours late, and having one model not show, overall we had a pretty good shoot. Our original plans were kind of screwed up because we weren’t given all access to what we asked for because of all the screw ups. The pictures turned out great, and we have been editing away (well actually my wonderful boyfriend, Nico has been editing away, I dont know what I would do without him!) so that we will have a perfect final product to turn in on Monday. We had such a talented photographer, Jay Perez, who understood what we wanted, and did his best at photographing to our standards. Make sure to check out his website, he has some amazing pictures. Check out a sneak peak of what photos we have so far. Hope you enjoy them!
